Maybe - but frankly I doubt if any school is doing that.  Think about it -
/free has only effectively been available for a year.  It takes that long
for most schools to update to a release let alone completely rework their
teaching material and the IBM supplied curriculum has not been updated as
far as I know.  The schools I know are teaching /free at the end of a
two/three year program.  Which would raise the question as to how long this
particular programmer was in school.

Regardless - the base syntax is the same except factor 1 comes after the
op-code.  Anyone who learnt /free shouldn't have too hard a time picking up
fixed.  Apart from all the weirdness in MOVEs that is <provocative grin>
