Angela, The manual on line does a pretty good job of translating opcodes to %bif's and vice-versa. I live by this thing when I'm writing RPG. http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/iseries/v5r1/ic2924/books/c092508302.htm#ToC Mike E. She actually went to school a long time ago but has never had a programming job. She has worked in accounting here. So when we moved her into the IT department we sent her to training for RPG and that is what they taught in. Sometimes when she asks question though she'll want to know how to do something and I have to say well the opcode of syntax in RPG400 is.... I don't know how to do that in /free. So that is why I was curious as to if I should learn the /free or have her stay with the RPG400 since that is what all our programming is in. Thanks for all the input!!! -----Original Message----- From: MWalter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:MWalter@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx] Sent: Thursday, March 06, 2003 10:50 AM To: Midrange Systems Technical Discussion Subject: Re: rpg free >>Maybe - but frankly I doubt if any school is doing that. Think about it - /free has only effectively been available for a year. Perhaps, but her original post stated the following: >>She is fresh out of a training class >>so is very new to the programming world but likes to use the free code. I ASSUMED from this that she was only taught /free. Maybe making an assumption got me again :-). Anyway, I like /free. We've only been at V5R2 (from V4R5) for a couple of weeks, but I really find it more natural. Thanks, Mark
