There is one configuration thing that's easy to check. If (as I imagine) you are using Host Print Transform, are you sure the *SPOOL pool is big enough? I have had similar problems in the past, when QPFRADJ happened to be turned off, and increasing the size of this pool had magical effects. Host Print Transform needs quite a bit of memory.
