It was the 186,000 that killed you, not the 4Gig. Can you group them on the
server into bigger files? Maybe with JAR and then archive the JAR files?

ssssssllllllllooooooooowwwwwwwwwwww!  We archive to DVD-RAM now and 186,000
images for under 4 GB took 57 hours.  Thankfully it ran in batch and used
very little CPU.  We did not do a SAV but a MOV.
