The iSeries is not a niche machine! At least not anymore then any other
computer. I could buy a used one off of ebay (for about the same price as a
PC server) with just the OS on it, run it as a print server, file server,
web server, FTP server, Mail Server (for a better one load communigate),
DNS, and probably more that I can not think of right now.
What IBM needs to do is lower the software subscription for an OS only
machine and cheaper hardware maintenance.
What those of use who know the iSeries need to do is get them installed in
at least the IT department as a server that replaces or instead of a
windows server. This may help others to see how reliable they are and get
used to working with them and see they are not a niche machine.
Just my opinion.
