Well then. Sounds like it's time to skip the mailing list and the IBM .pdf docs and call 800.IBM.SERV. Unless the machine came from the factory with a failed disk (which is sort of what it sounds like), then they should do that one for free. Otherwise, be prepared to cough up around $500 to have a CE do it for you.
