The reason i was after using FTP was that it should be fairly robust, quick, AND is a plain vanilla solution. Whilst i'm tempted to have a look at your solution, and im sure it would be technically elegant ( and who doesnt like those solutions?), im after something that is simple, and easy for others to maintain/manage/understand. If something goes wrong, or needs to be changed on the FTP script ( eg: in CL ), it would be pretty easy for almost any AS400 guy/girl to fix/change without too much research. It could also be run interactively if things got really iffy. I've been using the NTFS file system to do jobs like that when they need to be initiated from the iSeries side. There are wrappers for the needed API functions in the Unix module of iseries-toolkit http://sourceforge.net/projects/iseries-toolkit/ that make it really easy to do. You need to adopt a user profile that has an identical password on both systems, but the toolkit also contains a Usrprf module that makes that easy enough. I've got a generic example if you're interested.
