I do not believe that the LDA is one of the environment variables. Look
at the commands
GO MENU(CMDENVVAR)

Now, I've never had to retrieve an environment variable. However, I have
had to set some in order to run some specific Domino applications. I
assume there is an api or something to read an environment variable. This
sounds like a function used mainly by applications (Domino) migrated or
ported to the iSeries from other platforms (Windows or Unix).

The below email was sent to me by one of my developers. Does anyone
know if the CPYENVVAR is new (or about what release it was
implemented?). This is news to me.

Subject: SBMJOB Command

Hi guys,

This is scary stuff. I'm working on a new report for FAB and decided to
use *LDA to pass the parms from program to program, since this one looks
like it's going to change a lot. I'm using an online parm entry that
populates *LDA, then am calling a CL that checks to see if it's running
interactively and if it is it submits itself to batch and ends. Basic
stuff.

The SBMJOB command apparently has a "new" parameter called "Copy
environment variables" - keyword CPYENVVAR. On FAB this value defaults
to "*NO" which means that the system does NOT carry the contents of the
local data area to the batch job. FAB is on V5R1M0 L00. I don't know
how long this parm has been around. This is the first time I've seen
it, but I know I have done this type of processing before for FAB and
other clients. If the parm is set to "*YES" then the current job's *LDA
is passed to the batch job.

I spent about an hour chasing my tail trying to debug a program that
really was working just fine. I'm going to email Ashley and ask him if
we can change this command default to *YES. Can you think of a time
when you would ever want the submitted job to not carry the calling
job's variables with it? I can't.

Just wanted to let you know in case you start having problems.

Thanks,
Vickie Williams
