Forgot to say that I also create a new device as:
CRTDEVPRT DEVD(RODOUTQ) DEVCLS(*VRT)
TYPE(3812) MODEL(1) ONLINE(*NO) FONT(011)

I know that this if there are any applications that
may be using the device (which will happen, eventually)
however...yeap! nothing happened...

I just found out that:

a) Printer is directly attached to a PC, no "little boxes" in between.
b) On the IBM documents, the equivalent for the HP DeskJet 970Cxi
is the HP500 on the MFRTYPMDL parameter.

I did ENDWTR and STRRMTWRT again, but nothing happened.
I did turned off / on the printer, but nothing happened.

I will keep on trying...
