Twinax can have it's own problems. Like a system in which we wanted no
auto creating device descriptions, and the system values weren't doing it.
So we renamed the command CRTDEVDSP. However the system console died.
Boss replaced it with a different model laying around - BIG ERROR! First
thing the OS does is DLTDEVDSP, followed by a CRTDEVDSP if the models are
different. Thus it wouldn't come up. QINTER was down. Remote to the
rescue! Used remote commands to rename the command back. Just doing a
little thinking outside of 5250.

And what would that standard display, keyboard and mouse be?
The integrated wintel card? Hey, even 5250 via twinax normally takes a
special card.
Hardwired to the box itself, like the S/38?

I remember when small developers were clamoring for a common tape drive. I
thought that was a great idea. I had no need for a 1/4" cartridge though
but if everyone had a 3590 that would make data exchange easier. Granted
it would raise their prices. Tough. They didn't care if it raised my
price to buy a 1/4" cartridge that I had no use for. (I've just recently
got rid of the $4,000 8" diskette drive.) Now, that CD isn't a bad idea
though.

Telnet, etc always require communications (eg, TCP and Telnet servers)
to be be active. In restricted state this not the case. IBM have tried a
number of different convoluted routes to a terminal since moving away
from Twin-ax. I am yet to be impressed by any of them.

There is nothing more irritating than loosing contact with your console
when trying to restore a SAVSYS. And - always a PC is required, and you
hope Windows does not crash during any key processing. It is a pain in
the *%$&£".

The iSeries really does NEED to be able to talk natively to a standard
display, keyboard and mouse. -- C'mon IBM it can't be that hard, even if
this function is limited only to the console!!!
