-- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Telnet, etc always require communications (eg, TCP and Telnet servers) to be be active. In restricted state this not the case. IBM have tried a number of different convoluted routes to a terminal since moving away from Twin-ax. I am yet to be impressed by any of them. There is nothing more irritating than loosing contact with your console when trying to restore a SAVSYS. And - always a PC is required, and you hope Windows does not crash during any key processing. It is a pain in the *%$&£". The iSeries really does NEED to be able to talk natively to a standard display, keyboard and mouse. -- C'mon IBM it can't be that hard, even if this function is limited only to the console!!!
