Just an FYI on the constrained/unconstrained thing. This (and some
others) model of the 170 had some limitations on the amount of main
storage and number of disk arms which prevented the processor from
reaching its full potential under IBM's CPW benchmark testing. The
constrained figure represents its maximum performance on the benchmark;
the unconstrained figure indicates that it would have done better if
more stuff could have been added to the box. This implies that the
machine might do better on processor-intensive tasks than the CPW
benchmark would otherwise indicate.
