Yeah, I know all that.  As I said in my original post: "objects compiled
at various releases from V4R3 to V5R1, but all with a target release of
V4R4 or lower."  Not to mention: "the save completes successfully".  If
I had used V51 or V4R5 opcodes, the objects would not have saved; and on
the V4R3 save, it should fail elegantly, not dump.

Just for more information, though, I tried saving each of the individual
objects to save files with SAVOBJ TGTRLS(V4R4M0) and got the same
result: the save file reported V4R5M0 for all object types that I tried.
