Today I went to the computer store and bought a DVD-R/DVD-RW
burner. The media is $14.95, expected to go down in price soon.

I should be able to get 20-30 GB of AS/400 data on one of these
compressed. Of course they are slow at writing. So download from
AS/400 thru tape interface, put on fast hard drive, tcompress
and write to DVD while the AS/400 continues on its merry way.

And I saw a nice 160GB disk drive for the PC. $300 bucks, only
5400 RPM but that shouldn't make any difference in this
application.mI can raid 4 together and get 320GB of save space.

What fun.

I sure hope that IBM DVD-RAM drive dfor the AS/400 is shipping.
To slow to back up your AS/400 to, but fast enough to restore
from. (although it would be faster to restore from my hard
drive.)
