JCreator is really nice. Thanx Brad for the info.

As for learning java -

I feel first one needs to understand OO Design methodologies. Have a
framework in mind. e.g. separating your business rules, screen etc.

Once this is achieved write a small application in MS word (or whatever
editor) fitting into this framework. It should be in plain understandable
english.

After this you must read "Thinking in Java" or some other book and start
coding. Objective should be to only convert your MS Word document into java.
DO NOT READ more than what u require.

Repeat this cycle with continous improvement in coding. In a month or 2
you
will have a reasonable grip ( at least no nervousness state) on java.

The problem I have with books like that is I feel that
AWT/Swing/Servets/JSP should be the last thing to learn.
Being a follower of the Joe Pluta Java <bg>, even though
most of what he says at the time goes over my head. After a
couple weeks it makes sense after playing for a while.

But, to each his own. I bet at least 80% of the Java
community does it this way. Most other Java mail groups and
forums I am involved in show that people write procedural
Java code, instead of using good OO design. Not saying
that's wrong, just not the way I prefer.
