Well you definitely want to use Netserver on your AS400. What version of OS400 are you running? How much available DASD? The gotcha in using the AS400 Netserver is you MUST keep you network and AS400 user id's and passwords in sync. Are you using NT logon scripts to set up the drive mappings? If so, you are in luck. Ok step 1. configure Netserver. Give it a name of Q(current system name). 2. Create a folder with the same name as one currently being used. It is easiest to use Ops Nav to create the folder in the IFS. Do not create under QOpenSys unless you want the names to be case sensitive. I create all my shares under Root\home. 3. Now you can share this folder. 4. Change your, or a temporary, profile's logon script to map to your AS400 share. Logon and test. If it works for you, copy your NT shares to your AS400 keeping the same names. Change every logon script, only changing the server name. If your users only map this way you are done. If they have software that uses the path, \\systemm\defined_share you will need to do further work. You can rename your NT then assign the AS400 Netserver the same name that your NT had. No scripts changes necessary. Great to here someone replacing NT with AS400. Christopher K. I would like to know what I am about to describe can be done and where to go to look for the answers. Current system is an IBM Net Finity 5500 Windows NT 4.0 with some service packs. It is used for file and print sharing. Each individual user has space (drive H) on the server for storing documents. There is a shared area (drive G) which can be used by the user to store documents to pass to other users. When a user logs on to the network, the 2 drives are automatically mapped through a script that is run. What I would like to do is the same thing but using the AS/400 to do the same thing. Where do I start and where do I look to be able to start doing this? Thanks in advance Dave Willenborg Dwillenborg@jcrob.com
