Did it stop after you changed CD's and replied to msg to continue with 2nd
one ?
I had a case where that happened years ago during a release upgrade, and
now always wait until the little green light on the CD drive stops
flashing before replying to the msg to continue.

We had an issue when going from V4R4 to V4R5 on our 720. The alternate IPL
source was TAP01. It started reading the CD then just stopped. It took me
and two people at IBM 4 hours to figure it out. They even came in and
replaced the CD drive. We did a manual IPL and when into DST to change it.
I still don't know why it was set that way since I loaded the OS when the
machine was shipped.

Neil brings up an interesting point, and to tell you the truth, I
never thought about there actually being a tape in the machine
during a reload/install. I truly believe it looked at CDROM first.
Maybe it looks at the first available device ???
