I think half-duplex operates in this way - raise RTS, modem should respond
with CTS, send data, drop RTS, etc.
You may try full-duplex.

What application are you using to communicate with ??? BSC normally
requires some give and take from both ends, but the connection will
stay up unless somthing "else" is causing the drop.... BSC was/is
commonly used for data transmission normally using RPG programs to
send and receive...
