I agree with you that we should plan - We do like to plan but the planning
must not be forced by the vendor ...

And your comment about the the product getting better after version upgrades
is not correct (how come people who upgrade to v5r1 are always complaining
and having problems besides IBM is releasing PTF almost every hour? - not to
mention if you are 24/7 how would you keep up with PTF business) - and the
version upgrade cost you $$$/time and you encounter new unknown problems.

If we have to face the same "BS" from IBM that we have to from MS than I
rest my case..

I'm sorry, come again?  You're running a *billion* dollar business on a
436 (a 9402 P05 or P10) and you're complaining about having to upgrade
the hardware?!?!?  You're right, there is something definitely wrong
with this picture.

I mean, c'mon!  The OS itself is probably taking a big chunk of change
on your DASD which is maxxed out at 50GB (nominal; half that if you're
mirroring).

Maybe in the future your company could plan for growth in your business
*and* in the OS.  Unlike MicroSh*t products, OS/400 keeps getting better
& better with each release.
