Lou,
Thanks. That's the solution that was chosen when we couldn't figure out
how to get it to accept the commands via RUNRMTCMD from the 400.

Subject: RE: 400 to 4690 POS Store Controller
Neil,
One of our clients has the 4690 controllers in their retail stores.
Fortunately I don't deal with them that much, and I think they use a
dialup
package called MLINK(by Computer Associates) for their communications.
I believe on the 4690 you can setup what they call a secondary or
background
application, which is kind of a batch subsystem. That is what this
particular client uses to process price change files downloaded to the
controller. A program sits in the background waiting for a file to be
downloaded, and then updates the PLU file. I have no idea if they use a
system-supplied program to process the change file, or whether it is a
custom mod they had an outside firm write for them.
IBM's 4690 group used to be stationed in Raleigh-Durham, but it has been
quite a while since I had a need to talk to anyone there.

Chris,
Yes the 400 issuing the RUNRMTCMD has the AS-RMTCMD host server listening
on port 8475.
The crux of the matter is I don't know anything about the Flex OS
operating system on the 4690's (another company installed those), and how
to start (or even if there IS) a daemon task to listen for remote
commands.
