Age doesn't make one technologically obsolete. Many factors can contribute to obsolescence - an employer's resources available for training, an employer's need (or lack thereof) to incorporate new technology, a person's financial situation or personal circumstances, new technology that rapidly replaces our skill set, etc. One factor that can contribute greatly to obsolescence is an unwillingness to leave one's comfort zone.
