jt,

I invite you and anyone else who would like to break the mold to join
the openerp400 list hosted by David Gibbs.

>> Thanks for the offer. I'm always interested in breaking molds, at least
the ones that don't seem to be working well...:-) Actually, I've been
following the openerp400 archives, ever since I read Leslie's article on the
subject about a year ago (in News/400).

I did not start the WyattERP open source project a year and a half ago
to necessarily create an ERP software suite, but I used it as an excuse
to provide a common framework for open software development. If you
talk to folks that are locked into JDE or BPCS or SAP or any of the
other top dogs, their needs are very conditional on the application
suite that they are bound to.

By that I mean that a solution for JDE may or may not work with BPCS or
SAP. Not to mention your home grown apps. By using the WyattERP
project as a framework, we (iNation citizens) can create an ERP
foundation that has not the bells and whistles, but the fundamentals of
a universal, generally accepted accounting principles compliant,
information repository and data retrieval and delivery system.

>> If the alternative to WebFacing OSS falls on it face ;) and the iNation
turns into a marketing gimmick, I may take you up on your offer. I've held
back, because the size of the project and the difficulty of cracking that
marketspace are, to me anyway, somewhat daunting. JMHO.

BTW, I salute your under commitment in your offer. I like a person that
is self aware.

>> Thanks, you're very gracious...:-)

>From my own personal experience in the iSeries, open source, community I
can tell you that you can expect exactly what you offer. Since you
offer nothing so long as that your expectations are along the same line
you will not be disappointed.

>> Very, very true.

>> James, even though our views on the subject of OSS development probably
don't coincide (I'm basically against everything about the Linux movement)
we clearly share a common interest.

>> So I would like to extend a personal invitation to you to join
http://www.i-a-i-c.org. I wouldn't normally ask specific people to join in
this effort. But I have to make an exception in your case, because with
your wealth of experience in setting up these kinds of things, you could
make an invaluable contribution. In fact, in the first few days of the AAG,
Leslie wrote of your skills in this area.

>> I'll make you a deal! If you help out, in this regard, you can have
access to any code developed. (Not much of a deal considering it'll
probably be Open Sourced... ROFL) Seriously, if there's _anything_ I could
possibly do to intice you, please let me know.

>> Since there hasn't been any interest in this project so far, I called up
a friend and former business partner to see if he'd be interested in doing
something like this. Odds are about 50/50. But if he contributes his
efforts, there is a very good likelihood the two of us will come up with
something interesting (though we're both weak on the client end of things).
All that to say, I wouldn't waste my time, so I _sure_ wouldn't ask someone
else to waste their time, unless there was a fairly decent probability of
getting some useful results.

>> I hope you'll consider this invite, James! And thanks again for the
reply.
