Well when I am about to do an OS upgrade with out a hardware upgrade, I always do a SAVSTG AND option 21. I generally end to restricted and perform the SAVSTG. I then set the IPL option to the proper media for the OS, (CD now-a-days). Then load the CD into the drive and do the save 21. When the save is done and the IPL starts, well the OS starts loading off the CD. I must say that if the install go hay wire, IPL from the SAVSTG tape will restore everything while the save 21 will not restore jobqs or outqs. Also, you don't have to worry about LF and access paths. Christopher K. If you needed the lab box, i would give you QSECOFR and turn it over to you. When I got it back, I scratched everything back to the SAVSTG. So, I have never tried RSTSTG to another box. I gather a SAVSTG is more like a DISK IMAGE. -- bit processing. I think this is where the hardware differences come in. I think the new disks need to be the same number and at least the same capacity as the saved machine. So, I think it may be quicker to run, definitely easier to scratch a box "back to" that image. but, imho, not a serious contender for daily / weekly saves. I would rather see a Opt 21 with Save-Changes in between until you can do another full backup before I would recommend a SAVSTG. kmh +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
