You don't run a SAV '/*' (with omits of QSYS.LIB & QDLS) to save any data 
in IFS directories ?

Not proud or a department head, but here is what we do:

Using the job scheduler, we submit a job running under adopted authority
that ends all the subsystems except the batch subsystem that the job
is running in.  Then we run a SAVSECDTA, SAVCFG, SAVLIB, SAVDLO
to one of our 6 cartridge 3490s and a SAVLIB LIB(*ALLUSR) to the
other one.  Then IPL.  This is fired off a 1 am and the IPL is complete
at around 3 AM on our 500 series /400 with 26g (available after 
mirroring),
70% used.  HTH, Lance
