Macintosh OS9 accessing AS/400 -- MIDRANGE-L

Anyone seen problems with a Mac client connection to an AS/400. I can see
the client attach to the 400 using netstat *cnn, but I see a lot of
retransmits. The Mac client can ping PCs in the network fine, but when
pinging addresses on the 400, it times out more often than not. The
symptoms are that the Mac client cannot connect to the Domino server or use
their terminal emulation package. I feel it may be some sort of frame type
issue or packet size mismatch, but haven't pursued it. Any thoughts would
be appreciated
