I would be VERY VERY hesitant to mess with their work. No, my point is that developers should be more aware of what's happening outside of their companies own universe. Firstly, many of these same but different 'standards' are caused by developers re-inventing the wheel yet again - because they haven't looked to see if the wheel has already been invented. Secondly, there are companies that create their own standards just to strut about and say they have one, or worse to spite the other companies in the same vertical market. Thirdly, the time to adoption of XML forced companies to create their own, as they looked and nothing else was out there, at the same time as someone else looked out and saw that there wasn't a current existing standard - thus two (or n) 'standards' now exist and the 'not made here' mentality kicks in and everyone shies away from collaborating on a single vertical market standard. --phil +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
