We have three AS400's.  Two are dedicated transaction processors in
different states.  These two systems have no raid, or disk mirror.  They are
never backed up.  All there master files are updated from Our main system
which is backed upped and raided.  All the transactions they perform are
instantly mirrored to the other two system.  If one died, it would take me a
day to rebuild from scratch.  In the mean time, the other two system can
handle all the transactions.

In other words I agree with Oludare.  It really depends on what the system
is used for as to whether to RAID or not.

The fact is in a low budget environment, with no mission critical, the
history of AS/400 and a good nightly or BI-daily backup will be more than
sufficient, I think.
