There may be a package that does exactly what you want, but there are a few
built ins in OS/400 that may not involve any more work than conversion
software.  I'm assuming that you will need to define record layouts, do
filtering, and, maybe summarize.  Regardless of what tool you use, you have
to know something about the data to start with.

CA file transfer provides SQL support and allows you to export data from 400
files in a wide variety of formats.

Query400 and QMQRY (or SQL if you paid for it) will send data to output
files pretty painlessly.  Then there's always matching records. <g>
