Bob, Avoid powering down the system using any power switch at all costs! There is a command called PWRDWNSYS that will bring the system down safely. If you're lucky, you'll be able to sign on one or more of the following userID/password combos: QSECOFR, QPGMR, QUSER, QSRV. Use DSPOBJD QCMD and scroll through the information; you should see some indication as to the release level. Good luck, cuz I think you're gonna need it! Dan Bale IT - AS/400 Handleman Company 248-362-4400 Ext. 4952 -------------------------- Original Message -------------------------- Thanks, everyone, for your comments regarding the old 9404 AS/400 I was trying to IPL. After waiting a long long time, it seems to have initialized OK. Can someone tell me how to find out the version number of the Operating system (is there an operator command to display it)? Although it came with tapes labelled 1.2, I think I saw version 2.1 in one of the screens that flashed by, but I don't recall how I got to that screen. Is there an easier way to turn it off rather than the Emergency Off switch. I tried the rocker switch on the back labelled "delayed Off", but after waiting a half hour, it never did anything, so I used the Emergency Off switch. I logged on as "IBMUSER", which is a common mainframe (OS/390) IBM logon. Is there a better user ID to use that will display the libraries, volumes, datasets, etc.? Is there an online version of an operators guide that I could download and print, or must I order one from IBM?
