We have had the same performance problems with Visual basic and ODBC to
the 400.  There are some aftermarket ODBC drivers which will speed
things up a little (HIT comes to mind).  If you are going to do a lot of
work in delphi then you should purchase Delphi/400 or Ace/400.  These
are much much faster than ODBC.  We are using Delphi/400 and it is way
faster than ODBC.
