We had a similiar situation which we solved with the I-Data box. It's a
little black box that has to be configured with bootp. Once we had the first
one figured out, they have worked pretty well.

We needed to move some of our existing twinax-attached 4230's to a remote
location that would be addressable only via IP over the WAN. It was similiar
in that these are IPDS printers printing a DDS-embedded barcode on multipart
forms. It was different in that the remote location is wired with token ring,
not ethernet.

The I-data was the only solution we could find that would transmit IPDS data
over IP to print barcodes on an impact printer. The biggest limitation turned
out to be our requirement to continue using the impact printers. If you are
using laser printers, there are a variety of modules available.
