Count me in on the victims as well. 9910-140 went to sleep with no warning, no brownouts, nothing. The 170 had no clue. Of course it was 14 months old and out of the wimpy one year warranty. I spoke my piece with Best and IBM and the best they can offer is if I will pony up the $$ for a two or three year extended warranty they might can retro-warranty it. I pointed out that it was a known defect (I found a few old posts about this same problem) and technically it was broke the day I bought it. If I have to spend money it will not be on any product Best power makes. I thought I might get leverage by contacting a respected poster to this list who apparently had some previous experience with this problem, and he advised me it probably wasn't worth kicking up a fuss about. My way of thinking is that we spent $1000+ dollars on a piece of equipment that is unreliable and has a known defect. I refuse to send more money to a company that doesn't stand behind their products. The IBMer even tried to defend Best by saying the UPS was designed by IBM so it wasn't Best's fault! I think he was more of a salesman than anything. I have never had a problem with the Exide products except for replacing 4 year old batteries. Whew! I feel better already! Sorry about the rant. Anyway I am more than willing to participate in the class action suit! :) -Steve At 04:13 PM 8/2/00 -0400, you wrote: >Yes - I would exert a lot of pressure, as this is either a design or >manufacturing defect.
