Scotty, There are at least two possible sources for this command. 1. There were two old, third party, S/38 developed commands called DSPF and UPDF (Display file, update file). If you also have the UPDF commmand, that's likely where they came from. These commands were created by a contractor working at Fairchild Semiconductor (Fairchild Camera & Instrument originally) in the early 1980's. I have found these commands on S/38's and AS/400's all over the place (I work in Wa. state, but I've seen these commands on computers in Alaska and Ca. also). 2. The TAATOOL product is delivered with a DSPF command included. But given the info in your Email, I'm guessing the DSPF you have is not from TAATOOL. As far as moving the command to another system, just display the command and find the CPP (command processing program) used. Save the command and the CPP, restore to the other system and try. If you need other objects (programs or files), you'll get an error message indicating what's missing (you may need to try this several times until you have all the objects you need). I sorta remember that there were only a few objects needed for the command (cmd, pgm, dspf). Within our company we have two older AS/400's, old running 3.2 and the other running 3.7, I think. One was developed at a outside location by people no longer with the company. On one of the systems our analyst has been using a DSPF command to display file information. This command also allows the packed fields in this information to be displayed in a non-packed format. This command does not appear to be on the other AS/400 that we have. Does anyone have any ideas why and what we would have to do to create the command DSPF on the machine not having it? I can not even locate the source for this command, DSPFSRC in library QIDU. Thank you in advance for any suggestions. Scotty Scotty Muir Sr. Systems Programmer Triangle Auto Spring Co.
