Paul, <<<<<snip>>>>>> IBM is no help. They say to split into multiple sbs's with a couple hundred in each one. Maybe that's the answer but I'd like a second or third or fourth..... opinion. <<<<<snip>>>>>> I was having the same problem - hundreds of QPAD* devices costing me 20+ minutes on my nightly backup. I did two things: 1) created multiple subsystems (QINTERPAD0, QINTERPAD1, etc.) and allocated the devices to the specific subsystems, and 2) set the QINACTITV value from *NOMAX to 90 minutes. I had tried in the past to get approval to change the inactivity interval, but was rejected due to user pressure. However, when I was able to convince management the time savings by having inactive users log off, I was given the go ahead. (I was shooting for 30 minutes, but was glad to settle for 90). BTW, my daily backups (SAVCHGOBJ *ALLUSR) used to take over 30 minutes each night. Now they complete in under 10 minutes.
