  • Subject: 9337, 6501, E45 config troubles

I have an E45 that currently has two 6500 cards with two drawers of IPL
disk, which are emulating 9337-120's. I recently acquired a 6501 card and a
genuine IBM 9337-480 (32GB). I went into DST, removed one drawer of IPL
drives, rebooted OK. Removed one 6500 card, installed the 6501 and the
9337-480, booted up in DST and configured the new drives. So far, so good.
It appeared to add the drive successfully to ASP 1. Upon rebooting, I get
an 11-2 B600 6952 message and the system hangs. According to Problem
Determination, B600 says 'insufficient auxiliary storage'. Interesting... I
just added 32 GIG... or so I thought.

So... I have a number of questions that maybe someone can help me with.

1. Is a 9337-480 compatible with an E45 at V3r2?
2. My system also has a 6500 card in it to talk to the old 9337-120
emulating IPL drive. Could that be causing a conflict somehow?
3. Is there a preferred slot location for 6500 vs 6501 cards in this type
of
configuration?
4. I also have a 2617 card that I want to install sometime (after I get
this
working). Any preferred slot for that?
5. The 9337 came with a 68 pin scsi terminator. Does that go on the number
2 connector of the 9337 drive, or does it go on the unused scsi connector on
the 6501 card?
6. The 6501 card has two scsi connectors (upper and lower). Is there a
preference as to which one to use when only using one?

I've tried several different things, including deleting the data from ASP1.
I'm continuing to hang in Storage Management Recovery, even when doing a
manual IPL and choosing to install the operating system (which I _should_
need to do, since I nuked ASP1).

Thanks in advance.
