Yes, I'm aware of this. My point (not expressed forcefully enough) was
that the number of connections is a very important factor in the
comparison. As the number of connections go down (from 9000 to
200), the improvement factor goes down from 8 to 4. Presumably
this trend continues and there probably is a point where for a small
enough number of connections there is no improvement.

It is entirely plausible that the AS/400 edge (which is real - I'm not
denying that !) is due to better I/O performance rather than better
Java performance. Again, my point is that since the two are
entwined one must be careful to say what is due to what.

In any event, the AS/400 has come a long way.
