Nathan,

I have been an independent consultant since 94 and have never laid claim to
any software I was contracted to write.  The only software I "own" is what I
have produced on my own 150 at home and on my own time.   If I did want
ownership of an application that I wrote for a client, I would negotiate
that ownership up front in writing - either waiving or greatly reducing my
fees.  The client would need to understand that I would be trying to produce
a marketable package, and his involvement in that project needs to be
compensated as well.
