Well - at least the EXPECTED lifetime is longer than the time the
technology has been around, so only simulated aging can give you a
clue. On http://www.sa.dk/sa/itogarkiv/strategi/test.htm there is (in
Danish) a rather convincing description on the lifetime considerations
at "State Archive" in Denmark. They follows the aging closely (and
also remember the technology aging of readers - not enough that the
media is durable, you should be able to get your readers repaired).
And they DO use CD-R's as primary digital storage!

And a quote from http://www.hp.com/storage/event/wp_roadmap.html#what
about BOTH CD-R and CD-RW's: "With an expected lifetime of 100 years,
CD media is the most reliable media today."

Conclusion: "It's very long, and you can't get it any better today."
Isn't that enough for you?
