Michelle --
I assume both systems are at V3R2 or higher. I just did this as part of
migrating an F60(!) to a 720:
* Set up SNADS between both systems.
* Set up the desired output queues on the target system.
* Either set up (or temporarily modify the existing output queues) on
the source system to use remote print naming the new system (and the output
queues on the system) as the "target" for remote print.
* Start a remote writer (STRRMTWTR) on the source system on the queue
set up in the previous step.
* Drop the spool files onto the output queue with the remote writer.
If the files are in "HLD" or "SAV" status you will have to release them.
* The spool files should go to "SND" status and start appearing on the
other system. When the transfer is done, files marked for being saved will
be in SAV status on the source system; otherwise they will be deleted.
It took us about 5 minutes to transfer somewhere north of 150 good sized
spool files (100+ pages each) on a 16MB token ring link. (Obviously your
results may vary based on line speed and activity on the systems).
The only complaint we got is that the user ID on the target system changed
to the internal profile used by remote print (instead of the user ID of the
job that created the file on the source system). Most users were simply
delighted (in some cases amazed) to have their reports around for reference.
We did transfer every other print attribute intact. We moved the contents of
a half dozen different output queues concurrently.
