in the early 1990's we wrote a system to network as/400's across the
midwest for 
transparent sharing of credit reporting information.  we used techniques
that are now obsolete, but it worked well, fast, and was seamless to the
user.

i studied for months to learn about appn, appc, icf, y'know, the stuff
that you don't even touch today.
