I'd just like to know why a vendor like PeopleSoft is dropping their AS/400 support with something like this available.

Information about PASE, which now stands for the AS/400 Portable
Application Solutions Environment (AS/400 PASE), is on the following web
site:

http://www.as400.ibm.com/developer/factory/index.html

AS/400 PASE is an integrated runtime that uses the PowerPC chip directly to
run AIX instruction streams within OS/400 jobs. Because it is a runtime,
AS/400 operations are not changed by it. The focus of this environment is
to provide as much of the AIX Application Binary Interface (ABI) as
possible. OS/400 V4R4 Option 33 contains the first substantial offering of
this environment.  If you use this environment for porting your application
code, you will probably use ILE C code or CL to initiate your application,
so you will still want skills on ILE.  Note that this is explicitly a
PORTING an environment, not a new development environment.  A good chart
describing when to use PASE, and when to use ILE, is on the following web
page:

I hate to say it, but I agree with Roger on this one
http://www.news400.com/features/newmf/Article.cfm?ArticleID=13255 .
But Roger, where can I find more details on PASE, can we use this
runtime environment now, and if so how?
Will compilers like gcc be portable?
Also again I have to say, between you guys and IBM, programmers are
being torn apart. Do we implement ILE training, do we get AS/400
certification, or do dump what we have spent years learning and strink
out on a new tack?
How do we keep from being disappointed and left out in the cold by IBM?
What do we fight for?
