It depends on how you define the best talent. Most of ourselves don't consider us the bottom of the barrel and yet still code RPG. We've had people in here from the local high school trying to decide on whether or not they want to be a programmer. Full tuition reimbursement and whatnot, makes their eyes sparkle. Although I do catch your arguement a little. Many people were advised to switch jobs if their employer was hanging on to their S/36 long after the 400 came out. Are all those people still running on CISC boxes fat and happy or is management trying to make up their mind between RISC and something else? Do you really think you can attract the BEST talent by offering the opportunity to code in RPG/III?? Or even ILE RPG?? RPG programmers will NOT be flipping burgers any time soon; but the best talent is going to Java, the Web, ASP, VB (to an extent), Linux, Win2000 (like it or not) ... Do you really think all the thousands of small business in this country are gonna decide that they can't live without a web site ?? When was the last time you heard the owner of a company say, "Why aren't we using unix/linux for our applications ??" What was the last company you heard of that made "1" dime on E-commerce ?? Call State Farm,Allstate,Farmers Insurance companies and ask them when they plan on changing their thousands of AS/400's to a more hip machine with snazzy applications that their people will like better. Try to keep things in perspective and you'll be fine. +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +--- +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
