Seems like if you have 2 as/400s it might work better to use the old SNADS command of SNDNETF. This preserves the external description of the file. It may not be as modern or "sexy" as FTP - but it works.

I am trying to FTP a file between two AS/400's.
The file will transfer fine, but it loses its external description and turns
into a flat file.
I have RTFM and tried all the options that I thought were applicable.
Note: I am transferring from a V4.4 machine to a V4.3 machine.
