IMHO the ROBOT products are not as good as the IBM having worked with both on several occasions. First, all of the Help Systems products do full opens on all of the database files in their systems. They also have a tremendous number of seize locks generated by the software. What that all means is they use LOTS of machine to do their job. The databases generated by the history and such will use as much space as you give it, and then some. The IBM products are much more efficient. From a feature function standpoint, Help Systems has more stuff, but you will find yourself not using most of it. Help Systems support and IBM support on these products are about the same, both fairly responsive. If I already owned the IBM software, there is no way I could justify a switch to Help Systems. Regarding the record/playback. Why does it matter to you? If you are going to set up test scripts and maintain them, maybe they will offer some value, however I have never seen anyone really do that. Normally the test scripts do not keep up with changes and become not useful. Besides some of the change management software will have scripting tools that will do a better job. The main question is: Why would you leave the IBM software for the Help Systems software. How is the investment in Help Systems going to benefit you? The only real thing I can come up with is the Paging software Help Systems has. Does a nice job, and IBM does not have a good alternative. These comments are mine and mine alone and do not represent the opinion of my employer or anyone else.
