And just in case somebody ignores that (good) advice and has this bite
them anyway, the drives can sometimes be coerced to restart by gently
tapping on them as they are being started.

One 6606 drive I had bought via eBay has this problem.  It won't start
by itself from a cold start, but will if I tap on it during startup.
Then it runs fine as long as it stays powered on.  I keep it on a
shelf to use in case one of my 6606's in my RAID set goes bad.  I'll
just substitute the bad spare and coerce it to start, then shop for a
real replacement drive then return that drive to the shelf.
