It would hurt revenues in the short term because > several people might not purchase the product since it will soon be 'free'. > Granted it might accelerate some people to jump on the support bandwagon You can call me a lot of things, but when I'm disclosed (and I didn't say I was in this case), I stay disclosed! My source for the info was NOT non-disclosure info. Please read this interview with Tom Jarosh from three weeks ago: http://www.search400.com/news/article.vtml?docid=35660 Pay particular attention to the fifth question. I've also heard one other high-level IBMer mention similar packaging, out loud, to a seminar audience with more definite timing and version numbers. I'm quite sorry I volunteered the information. It wasn't my intent to appear to be an insider sneaking out info. The packaging I mentioned is clearly in the public domain. > and keep their operating systems current. Another thing, I am not sure > when V5 will come out since, (can I say this?) there will first be V4R5. Not if you've been disclosed. Can we quote you on this little nugget? >This kind of action has happened in the past. The AFP viewer used to be >a 'fee' product and now, with the right version of Client Access, is a >free' product. Yeah. Maybe the DOJ will have a case here for monopolous, predatory packaging. rp +--- | This is the Midrange System Mailing List! | To submit a new message, send your mail to MIDRANGE-L@midrange.com. | To subscribe to this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-SUB@midrange.com. | To unsubscribe from this list send email to MIDRANGE-L-UNSUB@midrange.com. | Questions should be directed to the list owner/operator: david@midrange.com +---
