I beg to differ laddie. We have 15 AS/400's. We actually had a production
system at a
higher level than our development machine. Our development machine was the
only one that
had an ECS line. We could order the PTF's from that one and then send it on to
the production
machine. I will grant you this - years ago on ancient releases you could not
even order PTF's
for higher releases of OS. Once the file is on your machine there is nothing
stopping you from
using SNDNETF to send it to the higher release machine.

Although may I suggest you visit the IBM web site and use the option to
download PTF's directly
to your 400 from the internet via the PC that is doing the ordering? Works
great for us. Uses
something called socks to do it. Not a bad method. Will work until IBM makes
the 400 ebusiness
ready and allows you to order PTF's from the internet using SNDPTFORD. (Don't
hold your breath.)
I guess only Microsoft makes operating systems that will allow you to download
fixes directly to
their machines, from their machines.

Since the PTF save file is a different release/version you cannot SNDNETF
it. But you can FTP it to the V4R3 system.
I used to do this all the time withe our V3R2 and V4R3 system.
The only thing you need to be carefull about is any pre/co-req PTF's. they
won't come along when the ptf is ordered
to a "wrong" version system

Is there any way, through ECS, to order a PTF and force it to ship on CD? I
have a machine at V430 that does not have an ECS modem and I wanted to
order
the PTF through a machine with V410. It downloaded the file to QGPL on the
V410 machine, but since it is an up-version file I'm not even sure if I can
save it to tape.

Any thoughts? Thanks!
