You could try deleting all the ECS lines/controllers/devices and then call
program QTIINSTL.

This program recreates the ECS hardware configuration...

Then you would know that everything was configured correctly anyway...

Look at history log. Normally, when communication error occurs, system
sends short informational message to QSYSOPR and a couple of more
informative messages to history log. These will contain error code, which
can be traced to exact failure - carrier loss or smth.

While we are on the subject I am using one with a brand new AS400 4.3 and
initially trying to connect to ECS using the system supplied QESLINE. I get
nothing other than a message saying the CTL failed when performing
SNDPTFORD.

Initially the line was for HRDWRSC 'DC03' which I had to change to CMN01. I
vary on Line and then controller. I start SBS QCMN. I perform SNDPTFORD -
line fails. DIP switches are factory supplied. ANZPRB suggests 90% hardware
failure but modem works at hardware suppliers.

Any ideas?
