Which version of Hyperterminal are you using - the one that comes with 
windows?  You may want to buy a more robust communications software.  We 
use Procomm Plus for our direct deposit file transfers.

I know that this is not the type of answer that you wish to here, but
TrailBlazer systems has a product called ZMOD400 that will allow you to do
the async connections directly from the 400 rather than use the PC as an
interface.  They have great products and tech support.  You can find them 
at
www.softwarejungle.com.  Good luck.
