BTW, from what I've seen of the cycle, it doesn't seem simple to me.  I
think it's mostly a matter of experience, but I am the one who wrote linear
searches for six months because I couldn't remember which indicator went
where on LOKUP.  (It's only 3 or 4 lines of code.)

When I was in college the professor told us he had created a file on disk.
We had to read the file and find a given word.

"What's the word?" came the question from the back of the room.

"I'll tell you after you write the program."

So we all learned how to code an alpha search.  In FORTRAN.

And for years I did the same thing in RPG.

I still have a sticker on the wall that shows the HI/LO/EQ positions for
RPG disk commands that need resulting indicators.
